The annual “Maha Pahan Pinkama” organized by the Sri Lanka Eye Donation Society to transfer merit to the late Deshabandu Dr. Hudson Silva, Mrs. Silva, and all those virtuous individuals who donated their eyes and tissues, was successfully held on October 17, 2026, at the premises of the historic Deegawapi Stupa.
A large number of devotees, arriving by bus from the headquarters of the Eye Donation Society as well as from various parts of the island, participated in the event. The devotees traveled to the Deegawapi Stupa as part of a special procession. There, they took part in a “Bodhi Puja” conducted by Venerable Galahitiyagoda Anuruddha Thero, after which they performed the traditional act of pouring water to transfer merit to their deceased relatives. A special donation of Rs.500,000.00 was made to the “Deegawapi Aruna Fund” to reconstruction of the Deegawapi Stupa.
All these proceedings were carried out under the guidance of the Chief Incumbent of the Deegawapi sacred site, the Most Venerable Mahaoya Sobhitha Nayaka Thero.
The following day, the devotees also had the opportunity to visit and pay homage at the historic Buddhangala sacred site.
