An event was held at the Taj-Samudra Hotel, Colombo, on 30th January 2026 to commemorate the donating of 100,000 corneas to the world by the Sri Lanka Eye Donation Society.
Prof. Chrishantha Abeysena, Hon. Minister of Science and Technology, and Mr.Gamagedara Dissanayake Hon. Deputy Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, attended the event as special guests, while the Japanese Ambassador for Sri Lanka, His Excellency Akiyo Isomata, participated as the chief guest. Special delegates from foreign countries, along with the local doctors, life members, staff members and their families also participated in this event. Special awards were presented to the staff of the Eye Donation Society, officers and technicians who made sacrifices to achieve this achievement.
The event was colorful with some dance events, and a short film about the “Journey of the Eye Donation Society” was also screened.
