“National Eye Donation Day” Celebration – 2022

National Eye Donation Day was celebrated with the participation of the Hon. Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms Dr.Wijayadasa Rajapakse, Hon. Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Mr.Vidura Wickramanayake, Director General of the NGO Secretariat Mr.Sanjeewa Wimalagunaratna, few other local and foreign dignitaries.

The deed for the land where the Eye Donation Headquarters building is situated was officially handed over to the officers of the SLEDS and a very special scale gifted from the Japan Rotary Club that is used to weigh medicine was also handed over to the Eye Bank staff during this event.

In addition to that, a pair of glasses worth around Rs.35,000 was given to Master Indula Adithya, who is a student of Erewwala Dharmapala Vidyalaya to symbolize the project of eye checkups of students and a pair of contact lenses worth Rs.54,000 was given to Ms.D.P.G.Ayodhya from Elayapattuwa, Anuradhapura.

In appreciation of the 25 years of unblemished service rendered to the society by Senior Technologist (Eye Bank) Mr.U.A.D.S.jayawardena and Mr.P.Dharmasena were obtained a role of honour from Hon. Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms Dr.Wijayadasa Rajapakse.

Apart from that, Junior Executive (IT) Mr.N.W.A.Nawaratne, Assistant Store Keeper Mr.A.B.M.P.De Silva and Retired Book Keeper Mrs.C.P.Kalehewatte also received a plaque in appreciation of their unblemished service rendered to the society from Hon. Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Mr.Vidura Wickramanayake.

Hon. Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms Dr.Wijayadasa Rajapakse, Hon. Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Mr.Vidura Wickramanayake and Director General of the NGO Secretariat Mr.Sanjeewa Wimalagunaratna signed consent forms to donate their eyes after demise, which was a remarkable event of this ceremony.
