The “National Eye Donation Day” celebration was held on 18th December, 2023 at the Sri Lanka Eye Donation Society headquarters and the Honourable State Minister of Indigenous Medicine, Lawyer Sisira Jayakodi, participated in the event as the chief guest. Foreign and local guests also participated.
Ceremonial awards were presented by the Honourable State Minister of Indigenous Medicine, Sisira Jayakodi to Public & Project Coordination Executive Mr.P.A.Sajith Darshana Pathiraja, Senior Security Officer Mr.B.W.Wijayarathna Bandara, Senior Security Officer Mr.R.Chaminda Indunil and Senior Cashier Mr.Chamara Jayamal Gamage for completing 15 years of continuous service to the Eye Donation Society.
56 intra-ocular lenses used for cataract surgeries were donated by Chinese eye surgeon Dr.Yao Xiaoming, and handed over to the Honourable State Minister Sisira Jayakodi by the Senior Manager of the International Eye Bank, Mr.Janath Saman Matara Arachchi, as a special event.
In addition, Rs.100,000.00 was donated to the blind students of H.A.Thiwanka Ranabahu of Gelioya Sri Pragngnaratana Central College, who had achieved first place in the G.C.E. Advanced Level examination in 2022 in Kandy District and H.B.Swetha Sandamini of Panadura Sri Sumangala Balika Vidyalaya for the achievement of nine distinctions in the G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination in 2022. High-quality spectacles to students W.A.Athsara Hasun Randesh grade 09 of Kosgama Sumedha Vidyalaya and A.H.Malshan Perera grade 12 of Horana Sripali Vidyalaya under the “Sisu Nethraloka” programme were also donated.
